RURBAN BREWING

Code of conduct

Rurban Brewing is proudly located in Cornwall, ON, on the shores of the St. Lawrence River, adjacent to  the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry, Akwesasne, and Northern New York State. Although small by design, we try and help make the world a better and more inclusive place through beer.  We promote a culture of inclusion, honesty, and acceptance, not denigration, objectification, sexism or elitism. We sell great beer at a reasonable price, not a lifestyle.

Rurban Brewing believes in a space that is diverse and inclusive with respect to our employees and our customers.

Rurban Brewing is open for all.  We afford equal employment opportunities to employees and job applicants without regards to race, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, weight, or any other protected status.

However, Rurban Brewing will not tolerate actions or harassment that undermines a positive experience and respect for our employees, customers, contractors, suppliers or other third parties.  All members of the Rurban team are subject to our Code of Conduct.

Types of Harassment that will not be tolerated (from the Government of Canada) include:
  • Preventing a person from expressing himself or herself: yelling at the person; threatening; constantly interrupting that person; prohibiting the person from speaking to others.
  • Unwanted sexual advances which may or may not be accompanied by threats or explicit or implicit promises.
  • Making rude, degrading or offensive remarks.
  • Making gestures that seek to intimidate.
  • Engaging in reprisals for having made a complaint under this Policy.
  • Discrediting a person by spreading malicious gossip or rumours, ridiculing them, humiliating them, calling into question their convictions or their private life, shouting abuse at them.
  • Compelling the person to perform tasks that are inferior to their competencies that demean or belittle them, setting the person up for failure, name calling in private or in front of others.
  • Destabilizing the person by making fun of his or her beliefs, values, political and/or religious choices, and mocking their weak points.
  • Harassing a person based on a prohibited ground of discrimination (as described in Canadian Human Rights Act or the Ontario Human Rights Code).

Rurban Brewing will continue to educate its employees to identify and solve issues before they happen.  This includes, but not limited to, creating a culture to open, respectful conversations surrounding diversity, inclusion, and equity in our community, including our workplace.  Employees who have any concerns should talk to management.  If an employee witnesses an action that goes against this code, please let management know or email us at rurbanbrewing at gmail dot com.

It is our responsibility to review and improve our policies and culture to ensure we are always providing a fun, safe and inclusive workplace and space.
